This illustration is a conceptual design for the "Camorra Gangs" silver coin, part of a series dedicated to the world’s most notorious criminal organizations. The scene is a high-octane "freeze-frame" of a street shootout in a mid-20th-century Italian setting.
Designing this piece required a careful balance between historical accuracy (period-accurate cars, motorcycles, and fashion) and the technical requirements of High Relief minting. The composition uses a forced perspective of the cobblestone street to pull the viewer into the center of the action.
Design Strategy:
Narrative Layers: The artwork features multiple characters in mid-action, from the suited mobsters to the fallen biker, creating a rich scene that will translate into a complex, multi-level relief.
Technical Planning for Minting:
Selective Coloring: The red bloodstains and the open briefcase were pre-planned for Digital UV Printing to create a stark, "Sin City" style contrast against the silver.
Texture Variety: Designed specifically to showcase different textures in metal—from the polished chrome of the vintage car to the rough fabric of the mobsters' suits and the gritty cobblestones.
Atmosphere: Inspired by classic Italian crime cinema, focusing on a "Noir" aesthetic with sharp contrasts.
Software & Process:
Line Art: High-precision linework optimized for 3D engraving and CNC processing.
Perspective: Meticulously calculated to ensure that even the furthest architectural details remain crisp and effective when struck in silver.
